About Us

Our team is passionate about aquatic ecosystems, the ecosystem services that they provide, and their management. We regularly explore rivers, dive, swim, fish and go kayaking. We walk up valleys to the sources, we cross cities where rivers are natural features, we seek to understand how the natural capital can be preserved and how it benefits society. In other words we work around the world to protect and enhance our waterways.

Stream & River Consult (S&R) was created in 2009 by Ir. Sebastien Den Doncker, then an expert consultant for private companies, and the manager of the River Contracts in Wallonia (2003-2007). In 2007, Sebastien had begun consulting for wetland restoration projects and created the first experimental spawning areas in Wallonia for native trout and graylings. In 2008, he had acted as expert for the GIPPA association in Belgium and helped to manage the European Fund for Fisheries in Wallonia. Sebastien led S&R to growth and remained an expert advisor for the Water Commission, the Natura 2000 local commission, and a member of many related boards and councils (Fisheries, Faune et Biotopes association). He is also the president of the Riwal association.

The team grew and evolved together with the rising need for eco-hydrological expertise around waterways. New members or associates joined or contributed with a variety of skills to meet the multidisciplinary needs of aquatic environment renaturation projects. They also joined with a shared passion for nature restoration and the wish to leave a lasting impact. Early 2019 S&R set up a management committee made up of experts supporting its development. With a strong vision and a strong team of scientists and managers, S&R develops a deep understanding of environmental issues, manages projects and offers practical solutions.

The consultancy firm is also involved in research and partnerships with New Zealand and the United States. It is also in those two countries that Stream & River has developed collaboration to market innovative fish shelters. More recently, S&R is developing research in eco-hydraulic modelling.

Stream & River is proud to offer quality services in Europe and New Zealand. Since 2007, more than 100 projects have been undertaken.
